Neon Yellow Lapel Splat

My brother's band, SuperPlate, played Harry O's in Manhattan Beach last year. I was pretty surprised when I uploaded my pictures the next day to find this clown standing between my sister and one of our friends. No clue who he was or why he was dressed that way, but perhaps the neon yellow splat on his lapel offers some insight.

SuperPlate returns to Harry O's on March 25.

UPDATE: OMG! Someone at flickr pointed out that this guy appears to be Disco Dan personified!

There's a story behind it. These guys were fraternity brothers in college, and on Sunday mornings after partying, they always went to this cheap restaurant and ordered the "super plate special." They named the band Super Plate, and then over time went through a variety of names, my personal favorite being Short Bus. They eventually went back to Super Plate, and when one very unsavory club owner put "superplate" on his marquee (cough, cough), the new spelling stuck.

I checked out your flickr page, man, you take a lot of cool pictures!

Is that really you in that "ID" photo?
You really do have those lovely blue eyes?

Mike - Glad you like my photos! :)

That is a self-portrait, it's definitely me. But I have to confess, those are contacts. I'm a brown-eyed brunette, just like most Italian girls. I've been coloring blonde for years and years, and sometimes for kicks, I pull out the violet contacts.

My sister is in the foreground of this photo, the one with the long curly hair.
